We were both born and raised in Wichita, Kansas, and, believe it or not, we actually met in kindergarten back in 1974! Life took us in different directions for many years, but we reunited in 2018, got married, and today we’re blessed with a blended family of eight children and eleven grandchildren.
Together, we run Salt & Light Furniture Liquidations with one clear goal: to make quality furniture affordable, help other small business owners succeed, and honor God in everything we do.
“For us, it’s never just about furniture. It’s about living our faith, supporting others, and making a difference, one piece at a time.”
After working for decades in the mattress and furniture industry, I (Don) began to see an opportunity to connect manufacturers and retailers in a better way.
I realized I could build something that not only supported our own family’s financial freedom but also created opportunities for others to do the same. So, we took a leap of faith and started Salt & Light Furniture Liquidations
What began with a few recliners has grown into a full-scale operation, moving multiple 53-foot semi-truckloads of in-box furniture from online cancellations every month to stores and resellers across the country.
“In 2023, I bought a few recliners from a small liquidation business, borrowed a truck to pick them up, and sold every piece before I even made it home. That moment sparked a vision.”
“We sell new, in-box furniture, the kind sold on major online platforms like Amazon, Ashley, and Wayfair, that was cancelled before delivery and returned to fulfillment centers.”
The furniture we source comes from online order cancellations: items that may have been opened for inspection or repacked but have never been used. Our shipments include a wide range of in-box pieces, from recliners and sofas to accent chairs, coffee tables, and more.
Each month, we bring in multiple truckloads to our Wichita warehouses and distribute them to discount furniture stores in El Paso, Albuquerque, Roswell, Springdale (AR), and Kansas City (MO), as well as small business owners and private buyers across Topeka, Gardner, Wichita, Maize, Goddard, Derby, and beyond.
Because we buy at such affordable rates, we’re able to resell at roughly 75 percent below wholesale cost. That means our retail partners can place these in-box pieces on their showroom floors as out-of-box display items, sell them at
50-60 percent below retail, and still make a healthy profit.
One of our greatest joys is seeing others succeed. Many of our customers are husband-and-wife teams, friends, or new entrepreneurs who have started small businesses by purchasing 10 to 75 pieces a week through us. We love watching these small businesses grow, knowing that our model helps others build something lasting, just like we did.
“The name “Salt & Light” comes from Matthew 5:13–16, where Jesus says, “You are the salt of the earth and the light of the world.”
We believe that means using what we have to serve others through fair pricing, honest relationships, and generosity.
Our faith is at the heart of everything we do. We both have a sincere love for Jesus and do our best to follow His teachings in our business and our lives. We donate a portion of our inventory to nonprofits and recovery programs in the local community and to families in need.
For us, this business is a ministry as much as it is a company.
We’re proud to serve retailers and small business owners across the country, and we’re always looking for new partners who share our passion for honest business and helping others.
We also maintain a small local retail space at our Wichita office that we affectionately call “smart shopping.”
It’s a simple showroom where we display new, out-of-box furniture for local customers to browse and purchase.
We update our selection weekly and occasionally participate in tent sales, flea markets, and community events because Don will always have a soft spot for retail and meeting people face-to-face.
